Delegations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Russia and Belarus took part in the session. At the event, the head of the Main Department of Geology under the Government of Tajikistan, Oymukhammadzoda Ilkhomjon Sultan, as Chairman of the Intergovernmental Council, made a report on the work done over the past period and the results achieved. After this, it was announced that the chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Council was transferred to the Ministry of Mining and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

On September 21–22, 2023, the XXVI session of the Intergovernmental Council on the Exploration, Use and Protection of Subsoil of the CIS Countries was held in the city of Samarkand.
